Why aren’t small businesses growing?

We were recently approached by a client who wanted to launch a new line of business — commercial cleaning.

We suggested a tool that would be the logical first step for entering the B2B segment: LinkedIn outreach.

When the client saw the cost of our service, their reaction was: “That’s expensive.” But let’s do the maths:

In the B2B cleaning sector, a single major contract to service a warehouse or shopping centre brings in between €20,000 and €30,000 a year. Our services cost €1,500 and enable you to arrange up to 30 meetings with decision-makers per month.

Now, a bit of simple maths: if just one major contract is secured from those 30 meetings, our services pay for themselves with an excellent ROMI as early as the first month of operation.

Essentially, you’re investing €1,500 to gain access to a contract worth €30,000 a year. Against this backdrop, the question is no longer whether it’s expensive or not.

The question is this: how much does it cost a business to continue operating solely on small orders, relying on word-of-mouth, and failing to build a substantial pipeline for major clients? The absence of such a pipeline, into which a major client might ‘fall’, costs the business the opportunity to grow.
